Days Go By
Recently, I’ve had this obsession with finding my karaoke song, even though I never karaoke. I feel like I should have one, though. One song I can really go for it with. One that feels like me and that I’m able to sing on key (mostly). Initially, I thought it could be “Where is the Love” by the Black Eyed Peas, but after a few practice runs, I decided I was not loving this image of myself. Nobody needs to hear me rapping. Also, I can’t sing the chorus.
Some time later and after several drinks on the Yuba river, I thought it would be fun to learn and sing “Last Night” by Morgan Wallen. The very country “bayburh, bayburh” got me and now I'm pretty sure it’ll be my top song on Spotify Wrapped. Embarrassing. Anyway, turns out I can’t sing it, nobody with a guitar shared my dream, and Morgan Wallen sucks.
In New York, I found “Days Go By” by May Erlewine. This is a song that sounds like me or at least the person I want to be. It’s beautiful – warm and loving and easy. The tone is lovely and actually, I can sing it, which gives me so much joy and comfort. Tragically, there is no karaoke version on Youtube for me to practice with. However, in my search for one, I found a video of May playing it on guitar and realized I can probably learn it on ukulele.
Here, for safe keeping:
